More good people.
I had the opportunity to meet some more people I greatly admire tonight. This week has been amazing. A lot of socializing, which throws me off, but so worth it.
I had decided to give the Twitter meet-up a try since I knew I’d be in town. I didn’t know that many people who were going to be there, but I thought it would be a good way to meet people my age here in town, especially since I read their tweets most days and already feel like I know them somewhat. After some negotiations, schedules aligned so that I was able to see Hutch and Mike beforehand. What a serendipitous occurrence!
Now, you all know I’m Hutch’s biggest fan. He’s my blogfather. I’ve had the privilege of being in his company a few times, and it’s always a pleasure. Mike has been essential reading for me for several months, but this is the first time we’ve met. At some point, he started commenting on my blog, which has made my day more than once. His blog, though, is its own form of poetry. He’s almost Kerouacian in how he experiences life–”it is what it is,” he says…and “it” is beautiful, and everything is alive and worth noticing. His words make me want to be a better writer.
So, as the “tweet-up” was beginning, the three of us were exchanging iPods and discussing music, God, and cars. I recognized Jackson, then Lizzie, two of my favorite Twitterers, as they came in. The whole thing was very odd and cool. Mike and Hutch had to leave, so I hung around a few minutes. At some point I realized, though, that I didn’t really speak the Nashville techie language. Plus, my sister had called earlier saying she was on her way. When your presence is requested by a pregnant chick in her 8th month…you go. So, I ducked out of the meet-up without having really gotten to talk to anyone, but it was still nice to connect some names with some faces.
On my way to my car, I had a text from an old Starbucks friend who still works there. She asked if I’d moved back yet, and I said no. I asked if she were at work, and she said no, but she was at the store talking to some friends. I said, “stay there” and drove over to chat for a while. There’s nothing like watching three baristas run out of a Starbucks, yelling and wanting to hug you. I stayed and caught up with them, then came back here to hang out with the family and poke around at my sister’s belly for a while.
All in all, it’s been a great day and a great week. Oh, by the way, the second interviewers showed up, thankfully. It was a decent interview. I’m not sure how I feel about it as my next place of employment, but I know I’ll end up where I need to be. And today–this week–I know I’ve been exactly where I need to be.

Thanks for the friendship and kind words. I’m proud to know ya.
I’m glad you got the chance to be social, sounds like you’ve had quite a week.
It is too bad we didn’t get to speak more. Maybe next time. As the father of 4 boys I am well aware of the need to serve the pregnant woman.
