I abandoned All of Nashville radio, including lightning 100 a few years ago for Satellite radio and 2 of my favorite Internet radiostaions Radioparadise.com and Indie Pop Rocks at Soma.FM. As for local stuff I just get out of the house and see them or read the local publications or myspace can be a good source.

It is Interesting how Nashville is billed as "Music City USA" and it had some of the worst radio stations I have ever heard.

I say all of us music lovers band together and start our own, new, fantastically awesome radio station the is unique to Nashville.

I feel like I died on the inside a little bit and there is a bad taste in my mouth. Much like what I would think typhoid fever should taste like. I even cried a little.

See, and I can even handle (most of) the artists you guys mention. There's at least a little songwriting integrity with (most of) them. It's when they become the norm instead of the "progressive radio" artists the station touts so often...well, I can turn to any station in town and hear that.

Thanks for the support, all. I'm in cool company. It just sucks that the one independently-run station in town has to alienate the very people--such as ourselves--who would be its greatest supporters.

Yeppers. And it will be too soon if I EVER hear another song by Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson, or John Mayer.

There was a time--less than ten years ago--when I couldn't get to work on time because I would have to wait until there was a song on the radio that I didn't like before I'd get in the shower. Often, I'd have to get in anyway. Now, my alarm is set to NPR; waking up to bad news is a better start to my day than some light rock listen-at-work crap. If my day starts with Fleetwood Mac or Jackson Browne, it's not likely to be a good one.

A check on the last few hours reveals some gems in the wee hours (Marshall Crenshaw, Pretenders, MMJ, Death Cab), but drive time music these days has just about made me homicidal.

you lasted an eternity longer than me, and i even got airplay on the damn station!

i started tuning lightning 100 out when i started noticing lots of john hiatt, bonnie raitt, sting, and other crud that i file under "singer songwriter via adult alternative earshit".

its a shame, but every good thing must come to an end.

Dude...I TOTALLY AGREE!! I've been extremely disappointed with 100.1 over the past year or so...they have taken on some strange new format that makes them play really crappy soft rock songs or the crappy mainstream 80's/90's songs that should never be let out of the vault! I find that I have been turning away from the station more and more every day. I felt like a traitor every time...it's nice to know that someone else feels the same way!
